“Lucky Spaniards, who say vino for come and vino to drink”

Grape pickers in Montilla-Moriles, the first region in Europe to begin the grape harvest, have water refreshing their throats in the vineyards since August. However, the grape harvest in general takes place in September.

The fruit is harvested by hand or using machines. They are transported in trailers to the wineries where the winemaking process begins: pressing, destemming, fermentation in tanks and then aging in barrels.

This industry was established Spain thanks to the phylloxera outbreak that ruined the French vineyards. Our neighbours needed new land on which to plant… Today, our wineries contribute wealth and brand prestige to the sector.

How can a winery be insured?

The grape bunches cannot wait. They must be harvested when they are ready. September and October are months of frenzied activity in the wineries. Any uncontrolled incident can ruin a whole year’s work.

Winery insurance policies cover buildings, facilities (machinery, tanks, etc.) and supplies (raw materials, packaging, etc.).

They protect against the usual hazards in any company (fire, third-party damages, robbery, breakdowns, etc.) and can even cover loss of earnings (the income that the winemaker fails to receive due to an accident included in the policy).

We can help you to control these risks so that you can celebrate the Grape Harvest Festivities with peace of mind. Spain is the number 1 country in vineyard cultivated area and represents 15% of world production. In recent years it has invested in wine tourism.

Hats off!
