“What you spend on a bike, you save on health”

Maybe this season Father Christmas will bring a bicycle to your son or daughter, a state-of-the-art one with helmet, lights and reflectors, electronic lock, mirrors and even and anti-theft GPS tracker.

A nice, healthy and ecological present. A bike needs no fuel. The more you use it, the stronger your body and your physical resistance. But… will they be safe while they ride it? And your pocket…? Yes, yes, your pocket.

How to transform a top present into an excellent gift?

In Vilafranca del Penedès, a village in north-east Spain, a 17-year-old adolescent was riding a bike “at full speed”. She didn’t brake on the zebra crossing and run over a woman. The victim had some injuries and suffered some hearing sequels, dizziness and had to give up soccer, her favourite sport.

The parents of the adolescent girl were sentenced to pay a fine of 26,370 €, and since they had NOT taken out any Civil Liability Insurance, had to pay the full amount from their pockets. Had they taken it out, the insurance company would have settled the full amount.

After the sentence they understood the importance of taking out a policy for bikes and electric scooters with a cost o hardly 40 euros. Such a policy “avoids putting our economy in danger with accidents that may carry material damages or personal injuries that, whether adults or young, we can provoke with this type of means of transport”.

Things always happen to others until they happen to you

Our piece of advice: insuring YOUR civil liability as owner and/or user of bicycles or personal mobility vehicles of up to 25 km/h (scooters, segways, hoverboards, monocycles, and so on) can be done taking out individual or family mobility. After that, go about the city without worrying about what may happen. All of us, insurance professionals, handle offers from 35 €/year.

Moral of the story: “If you do things well, things will end well”.
