You can’t put a price on health and only the unwise would jeopardize it

Pepe still didn’t want to. They were young, the 2 girls too small, but María insisted on taking out health insurance for the family. She explained her arguments to him and recited the refrain from our heading. Today, 25 years later, Pepe has no regrets and recommends this “healthy” supplement to our Social Security coverage.

Do you know how Health Insurance works?

This insurance fits you like the ring that Pepe put on María’s finger: it’s tailored to your circumstances.

  1. Decide on what you think needs to be covered. Think about when in your life you will need emergency care, ambulance transportation, primary or specialized care, diagnoses and medications, special treatments or transplants, prostheses and implants.
  2. Do you want an “all inclusive” plan? That means full care (in-hospital and outpatient). Or, for now, do you prefer hospitalization not be included? That would be the outpatient option.
  3. What modality interests you the most? Use the medical chart and the insurer pays the expenses directly. Within this strategy, you can even choose a cheaper arrangement via a co-payment system, where you look after part of the costs (if you use the insurance) in exchange for a cheaper premium. On the other hand, you may want to directly choose a reimbursement method, i.e., you choose the doctors and hospitals, you take charge of the payment and then the insurance reimburses you for the expense (or part of it, as agreed).
